THEY TOUCHED MY LIFE
The audience of 400 was hushed so the sound of the child in
charge of the record player walking up the aisle crashed in my ears.
I was in the last row. "Mr.Rose," he said softly, "I forgot the
records."
I checked my panic and handed him the keys. My life passed before me
in the two minutes it took for him to go the room, find the
records, return, and start up the music. However, during that time,
the two sets of six children in circles on the stage and the other
four sets in the area in front of the audience - not a child moved or
said a word. Our sixth grade culmination program lasted one and
half hours and they were magnificent! And, I never said a word or
moved from my seat; they did it all themselves. I was teary-eyed
with pride. The complete story of that moment in 1961 and many
more are in this book.
